Nikos D. Hadjiargyriou is a faculty member since 1984 and a full professor of the Department of Electric Power, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, NTUA since 1995.He is the founder of the Smart Research Unit for Electricity (SmartRue), which is part of the Power Systems Laboratory. He has served as President of the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDDIE S.A.) from April 2015 to September 2019 and as CEO until June 2018. He was also Vice Chairman (2007-2010) and Deputy CEO (2007-2012) of PPC S.A. in charge of Transmission, Distribution and CIP, President of PPC Telecommunications, Vice President of PPC Renewables (2007-2010) and Vice President of CAPE. He is a Life Fellow Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Editor in Chief of the IEEE Trans on Power Systems journal and former Chair of the Power System Dynamic Performance Committee-PSDP. He is a prominent member of the international scientific organization CIGRE, Chairman of the Networks of the Future Advisory Committee and has served as Chairman of the C6 Distribution Systems and Dispersed Generation Study Committee. He is Vice Chairman and former Chairman of the European Technology and Innovation Platform for Smart Network for the Energy Transition (ETIP SNET) and a member of the Energy Committee of the Academy of Athens. He is the author of the book "Microgrids: architectures and control" and more than 250 journal articles and 500 conference proceedings articles. He is included in the Thomson Reuters list of "top 1% most cited researchers" for the years 2016 and 2017 and 2019. In 2020 he received the Global Energy Prize.
